    sport coalitions in action program Bhutan

    Early 2008 the Dutch ministers for Development Cooperation and for Welfare / Sports (vws) started the sport coalitions in action program 2008–2011 promoting sports as a means to support development processes in ten countries. The total program budget is €16 million out of which €240.000 is secured for the Bhutan program from 2009 to July 2012.

    The sport coalitions in action program Bhutan supports young urban out of school youth in Thimphu, Bhutan. Sport is used to teach them skills such as: discipline, confidence, leadership, and to teach principles like: tolerance, cooperation and respect. The program creates opportunities for young people in terms of inclusion, employment, emancipation and empowerment.

    The pilot  focusses on young urban out of school youth in Chang Jiji area, Thimphu. The ministry of Education, department of Youth and Sports (dys) is involved in the implementation of the program besides the Royal Bhutan Police, the Chang Jiji business community and others.

    Bhutan+partners coordinate the sport coalitions in action program Bhutan for the Dutch Ministry of Public Health, Welfare and Sports. The Youth Development Fund in Bhutan is the executive and administrative agency in Bhutan.
